Impact of the Western Development Strategy on the Forestry Ecological Efficiency in Western Regions

  • In recent years, the economic growth rate of the western region has been higher than that of the central and eastern regions, but the ecological environment of the western region is more fragile than that of other regions, and it is a severe challenge to coordinate the relationship between economic development and ecological construction. Forestry ecological construction is an important part of the western development strategy, so it is of great significance to study forestry ecological efficiency in the western region. Firstly, the forestry ecological efficiency of 31 provinces in China from 1996 to 2020 was measured by data enveloping analysis method. The results showed that the forestry ecological efficiency in western China had been gradually improved since the implementation of the Western Development Strategy in 2000. The influence of western development strategy on forestry eco-efficiency was studied by using the double difference method, showing that the western development effectively promotes the improvement of forestry ecoefficiency in the western region. After the robustness test, the concrete mechanism of the western development strategy on forestry eco-efficiency was analyzed. Finally, some policy suggestions on improving forestry eco-efficiency in western China was put forward, involving promoting the further optimization and upgrading of forestry industrial structure, improving the level of forestry science and technology, and strengthening the control of forestry ecological construction funds.
