Effect of Digital Inclusive Finance on Green Development of Agriculture in Major Grain Production Areas

  • The main grain producing areas bear the dual responsibility of ensuring national food security and ecological security. The development of digital inclusive finance provides new opportunities and impetus for the green transformation of agriculture in these areas. We systematically examine the impact of digital inclusive finance on the green development of agriculture in major grain producing regions by using the panel data from 2011 to 2021 at the provincial level across 13 major grain-producing provinces. The results show:(1) there are significant differences in the level of agricultural green development among provinces in the main grain producing areas, but the overall trend is showing an overall upward trend.(2) The development of digital inclusive finance will significantly enhance agricultural green development level in major production areas and provinces.(3) Digital inclusive finance has a dual threshold effect on the green development of agriculture in various provinces in the main production areas, and there is a Matthew effect, which means that the impact of digital inclusive finance on provinces with high levels of agricultural green development is strong. From the findings of this study, suggestions are proposed to strengthen the institutional and infrastructure construction of digital inclusive finance in the main production areas, innovate financial products and services for agricultural green production, enhance the literacy of farmers in digital inclusive finance, and build a flexible credit rating system.
