Abstract:
Rural residents’ consumption plays a crucial role in rural development. This study constructs an evaluation index system encompassing five dimensions: overall consumption level, household operations, consumption structure, asset ownership, and market vitality. The entropy weight method is employed to measure the consumption level of rural residents in Sichuan Province from 2013 to 2022. Subsequently, a fixed effects model is established to empirically analyze the influencing factors of rural residents’ consumption levels. The results indicate that while the consumption level of rural residents exhibits an upward trend, significant regional disparities exist, highlighting the problem of uneven consumption levels among this group. The empirical analysis identifies residents’ income and urbanization rate as the most critical factors influencing consumption levels of rural residents. In the current context, deepening the integrated development of rural industries and accelerating urbanization, promoting integrated urban-rural development and improving the rural consumption environment, and enhancing the social security system while transforming consumption concepts will contribute to increasing rural residents’ income and consumption expenditure levels, fostering the development of the rural consumption market, and achieving sustainable rural economic development.
