地区居民性别平等价值观认同与企业ESG绩效

Gender Equality Values among Regional Residents and ESG Performance of Enterprises

  • 摘要: 选取2011—2020年间中国A股上市公司作为初始研究样本,研究地区居民性别平等价值观认同与当地企业ESG绩效之间的关系。实证结果发现,地区居民性别平等价值观认同与企业ESG绩效之间存在显著正向的关系,即当地居民性别平等价值观接受度越高,企业的ESG绩效也越高。在消除样本选择偏差后,此结论仍然成立。在进一步分析中,分析师关注度与媒体关注度等正式制度能够有效提升地区居民性别平等价值观对企业ESG绩效的正向作用,进一步证明正式制度和非正式制度相互互补,共同影响企业ESG绩效。

     

    Abstract: By selecting the data of Chinese A-share listed firms during the period of 2011—2020 as the initial research sample,this paper studied the relationship between regional residents’ gender equality value acceptance and local corporate ESG performance.The empirical results found that there was a significant positive relationship between regional residents’ gender equality value acceptance and corporate ESG performance,i.e.,the higher the acceptance of local residents’ gender equality values,the higher the corporate ESG performance.This finding still held after eliminating sample selection bias.In further analysis,formal institutions such as analyst attention and media attention could effectively enhance the positive effect of regional residents' gender equality values on corporate ESG performance.It further proved that formal and informal institutions complement each other and together affected corporate ESG performance.
